This afternoon’s weather was too good for staying indoors, so I went to the gallery at OXO Tower near Waterlooo to see entries in the Guardian’s food photography competition. It was in three categories: Food Glorious Food, Food for Thought and Food and People (the latter judged by Harry Borden and one of my favourite photographers Jane Bown). All entries were presented as canvases. Probably the one that struck me as the deepest and most beautiful was an older Italian gentleman with some onions. It was a very ‘simple’ portrait (& possibly would have benefitted from a little extra darkroom or Photoshop work) but wonderful all the same.
